Account setup - Alerts

1. What kind of alerts can I receive?

Uptrends can send you alerts via SMS/text messaging, e-mail, instant messaging (MSN) and RSS. You can customize which alert you will send to which operator.

2. How do I send a test SMS / Text message or email alert?

To be sure you will receive our alerts in case your website or one of your servers is down you can send yourself a test SMS/text message. Please visit “Account Setup,” select Operators and create or edit an operator. Once you are done, again click on the operator’s name. Select the option send a test SMS/text message to an operator. You will immediately receive an SMS/text message from Uptrends with a verification code. Please fill out the verification code in the operator screen, which is the same screen from which you chose to send the test SMS/text message. On the same page you can also test to confirm that you will receive an e-mail alert from Uptrends.

3. I did not receive a SMS / text message, what can I do?

We suggest that you wait a few minutes. If you did not receive an alert on your mobile phone, you can select a different SMS gateway, as Uptrends works together with providers in the USA and Europe. To change a different gateway, login, click “Settings” in the navigation menu and then “Account settings.” Select the tab settings and then click “Edit.” Now you can choose between the gateway in the USA or the one in Europe. If you continue to experience difficulties, please contact our customer support staff for prompt assistance. Please visit the Contact page for the information appropriate to your location.

4. How can I stop SMS / text messaging alerts when my website or server is down?

You can stop SMS/text messaging or any other alerts if you go to the Probe Status report and click the “Alarm Off” button. The alerts of this specific probe will immediately stop.

5. How many SMS / text messaging alerts do I have and how do I add SMS alerts?

You will have 20 SMS/text messages a month. We will not automatically stop but always send you a warning message that there are almost no SMS/text messages left in your account. You can easily add more SMS text messages via the Order page.

6. I have received an alert but my website or server is up

Uptrends is designed to eliminate false alerts. We will do a double-check from two checkpoints before you will receive an alert. If the error is resolved within a minute, you might receive an Uptrends alert. However, if there are gateway problems and your website is unreachable from the Internet, we can also send you an alert to be read once you can reach your website again.

7. Who will get notified?

We will notify the operators or operator group that you have added to a specific probe. You can change who will be notified if you to go ”Edit alert definition” or edit a specific operator group.

8. Can I add multiple operators who will receive an alert?

Yes, you can add multiple operators to receive an alert for a specific probe or probe group. Simply go to “Account Setup,” select “Operator Group” and add different operators to a group. Next, go to “Alert Definitions” and add this group to a specific probe or probe group. If you do not want to create an operator group you can go to “Alert Definitions” and add several operators to a probe or a probe group.

9. Can I customize my alerts such as to define which operator will receive an alert only during specific hours?

Yes, you can visit “Account Setup,” select “Operators” and select “Edit Operator.” Here you can select the duty schedule and specify the hours in which this operator will receive an alert.

10. Can I define which operator will receive an alert, for example, by SMS / text messaging and which operator by email?

Yes, you can create escalation levels for a specific probe. Go to ”Account Setup” and select “Alert Definitions.” Uptrends has three escalation levels. For escalation level 1 you can add, for example, the operations group or operators for which immediate action is required. For escalation level 2 you can specify backup operations and for level 3 you can choose the marketing department or management.

11. Is it possible that I am getting charged for the (international) text messages you send?

We have contracts with multiple gateway providers to send you the SMS alerts. Our SMS messages are totally free and part of your monitoring contract. However, it can be possible that your provider charges you for the (international) text messages we send to you. To solve this, you can try to select another SMS gateway. Navigate to "Account settings", click on "Settings", and click on "Edit" to select the gateway you want.

12. I am a SPRINT customer and I am having trouble receiving your SMS/Text messages

It can occur that some SPRINT customers are not able to receive our SMS/Text messages. To fix this, you can unblock yourself by texting UPTRENDS to 46786. If you do this successfully, you will start receiving messages again. If this inbound text fails, you will need to contact your carrier to get any type of block removed from your account.
