Once you sign up and activate your Uptrends account, we will automatically start monitoring your website or server. You can add or edit a probe if you login, click ”Account Setup” and select “Add probe.” A probe stands for a check. So if you want to monitor one website you need one probe. If you want to monitor 3 websites and 1 server you will need 4 probes. If you have a free four-week trial account you will have maximum 3 probes. If you want more during the trial period, please send us an e-mail.
Uptrends supports HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, POP3, Ping, DNS, FTP, Connect, SQL and MySQL. Learn more about the variety of protocols that we support. We also monitor on keyword match or login. Or learn how to monitor transactions. If you want us to support a specific protocol please contact us.
You can check the content of a Web page if you select the match probe type. Go to “Account settings,” click the probe name or add a new probe, select the advanced tab and fill out the match pattern. This can be a word or sentence. When the specific word or sentence is not found this is regarded as an error. You can also make a negative match if you want to monitor on a specific keyword that will appear when there is an error. To monitor on a keyword that will appear when there is an error please add ! in front of the keyword. So, the keyword error will appear when there is a failure fill in !error.
To monitor a server behind a firewall please open port 80. This is the easiest solution. You can always
contact our consultants. They can give you advice tailor-made to your needs.
To check a form or POST data to a form: First define a HTTP/HTTPS probe; Next visit the Advanced tab and select POST as HTTP Method and fill out the variables for the form. Place every form variable on a separate line and define a form variable in the format: "variablename=value" (i.e. "username=demo"). In most cases you also have to fill in a match pattern to test the content returned after posting the form. Ask your webmaster or Web developer for more information about the naming of the form variables in your specific situation. If you experience difficulties to monitor a form or login, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are willing to help you to set it up.
You can easily turn off a probe if you visit the Probe Status page and click the “Probe Off” button. If you want to turn the probe on, please do the same. You can also visit “Account Setup,” select Probes and edit the probe. Here you can also delete the probe.
Yes, one minute monitoring is possible although we don't offer it as a default in the Uptrends editions. Please contact us if you're interested in this feature.
