Getting started with transaction monitoring
Download our transaction recorder. It has a built-in browser.
The Uptrends site provides the details on how to sign up for an Uptrends account, how to set up a probe and how to start monitoring your website, network or servers.
Step 1. Sign up for our monitoring service at www.uptrends.com.
A. Go to www.uptrends.com and select the sign-up page for either the Uptrends Professional or the Enterprise edition. The Professional edition will monitor your website and transactions every ten minutes, and the Enterprise edition will do so every five minutes.
B. Fill in the data requested, including a valid website URL and e-mail address. Be sure to enter the correct URL number, because we'll automatically start monitoring the website upon the activation of your account. The activation URL and login details will be sent to this e-mail address, so be sure the e-mail address you provide is the correct one.
Step 2. Receive the activation e-mail from Uptrends.com and verify the account data you've provided.
Once the correct e-mail address and data have been provided to our site, you'll receive an activation e-mail with your login details (the account ID and password). Click on the URL to activate your Uptrends account. With the completion of this step, we'll automatically start monitoring your website.
Step 3. Login and view the reports.
Go to www.uptrends.com and login with your account ID and password. Immediately upon the activation of your Uptrends account, we'll start monitoring your website and you'll be able to view the reports.
Step 4. Download and install the Transaction Recorder to record and upload transactions.
The Uptrends Transaction Recorder is a free tool that runs on your computer. It has a built-in browser, which lets you visit your website, and navigate through your pages. A recording will be made of all your clicks, selections and typed text. When you finish recording, use the tool to upload the new transaction to your Uptrends account. It will be monitored straight away.
Step 5. Uptrends can help you with your transactions.
As an alternative to using the free Transaction Recorder, or if your transactions require special attention, Uptrends’ technical monitoring consultants can help you to add the scenarios and steps that are part of the transaction-monitoring process. Go to Account Setup, select Add Transactions and fill out the form. Please include your account ID, the URLs and the scenario you want to monitor. Also, please provide the login details if this is necessary.
Step 6. You'll receive alerts if transactions aren't working.
You'll receive alerts if your transactions aren't working properly. These alerts will be sent via SMS to your mobile phone, e-mail, RSS or instant messaging system.
Step 7. Add an operator or create operator groups.
Multiple operators can be added for each alert definition. To add a new operator, simply select Account Setup/Operators. If an operator wants to receive SMS/text messaging alerts, you can verify whether the operator should receive this message. You can create operator groups if you go to Account Setup and select Operator Groups. You can also define which operator is part of a specific group.
Step 8. Set up the e-mail reports.
Uptrends can send you and/or co-workers the e-mail report on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. To set up an e-mail report, please go to settings and select e-mail report settings.
