Getting started
This section provides information regarding how to sign up for an Uptrends account as well as how to set up a probe and start monitoring your website, network or servers.
Step 1. Sign up for our service at www.uptrends.com
A. Go to www.uptrends.com and select the Signup page for the Uptrends edition of your choice. You can choose either the Professional or Enterprise edition. The Professional edition will monitor your website or server every 10 minutes, and the Enterprise edition will do so every five minutes.
B. Fill in the data requested and a valid website URL/IP number and e-mail address. Be sure you fill out the correct URL/IP number, because we will automatically start monitoring this website or server once you have activated your account. If you want to monitor, for example, POP3 or another protocol you can always change the settings. The activation URL and login details will be sent to this e-mail address, so be sure to enter a valid e-mail address.
Step 2. Receive the activation e-mail from Uptrends.com and verify the account data you have provided
Once you have entered the correct e-mail address and data, you will receive an activation e-mail with your login details (account ID and password). Click on the URL to activate your Uptrends account. Once you have done this, we will automatically start monitoring your website or server.
Step 3. Login and view the reports and probe status
Go to www.uptrends.com and login with your account ID and password. Once you have activated your Uptrends account we will immediately start monitoring your website or server, and you will be able to view the reports and probe status.
Step 4. Define alerts
Go to “Account Setup,” select alert definitions and define the escalation level. You can select the number of errors that occur before you receive an alert, as well as the kind of alert to be issued. We can send alerts via e-mail, SMS/text messaging, instant messaging and RSS feed.
Step 5. Add probes
You can add a maximum of five probes during your trial period per trial account. To add a probe, please login in and select ”Account Setup” in the navigation menu. Select “Probes,” and then add your probe. Once you have added the probe, we will automatically start monitoring it. You can add a maximum of five probes during your trial period.
Step 6. Create probe groups
You can group probes together. Go to ”Account Setup” and select ”Probe groups.” Create a probe group and add an existing probe to that specific group.
Step 7. Add an operator or create operator groups
You can add multiple operators for each alert definition. To add a new operator, select “Account Setup/Operators.” If an operator wants to receive a SMS/text messaging alert, you can verify whether the operator will receive the message. You can create operator groups by visiting “Account Setup” and selecting the ones you want to include. You can also define the specific operator group to which an operator will be assigned.
Step 8. SLA settings
If you have signed up for the Uptrends Enterprise edition, you can also define the SLA objectives to verify whether your hosting provider will achieve the agreed uptime level or that you meet the SLA requirements. You can even define specific hours of the day or days of the week. To set up the SLA definitions, please visit ”Account Setup” and select “SLA Setup.”
Step 9. E-mail reports
Uptrends can send e-mail reports to you or your co-workers on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. To set up an e-mail report, please go to “Settings” and select “E-mail Report Settings.” If you have more questions about the settings of your Uptrends account, simply login and click “Help.” Here you will find the FAQ and a manual.
