Bank of America Online Banking Crippled by Downtime

SAN FRANCISCO,  January 29, 2010—Bank of America ( experienced severe issues with website availability today.   According to data collected by the website monitoring company Uptrends (, Bank of America has spent much of the last 4 hours offline.

Bank of America is one of the largest banks in the world, and is the largest bank in the United States (by assets).    

Uptrends reports that it has been monitoring Bank of America's website for the last 30 days.  Beginning at 11:58am Eastern time today, the popular online banking site was down for almost two consecutive hours.  The site continued to experience intermittent downtime for several hours thereafter.   Over the last 24 hours, Bank of America's website has experienced uptime of 90.7%.  This equates to 2 hours and 14 minutes of cumulative downtime.  

As of this release, the site continues to show issues with stability with brief periods of intermittent downtime being recorded every twenty to thirty minutes.  

Methodology: Using worldwide checkpoints in USA, Canada, UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Australia, Uptrends monitored the availability of for a thirty day period.  Monitoring was performed on each website every 5 minutes.  In cases where the website could not be reached, a second checkpoint performed the availability check. If the website was still not available it was defined as an error. During the research period, Uptrends was not made aware of maintenance periods of the website.
