More lengthy search phrases becoming more common on web searches

San Francisco - ( ), the global website monitoring company reported today that internet users are using an increasing number of words in their internet searches. Internet users frequently use search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing when navigating the internet.
In a study conducted by Uptrends, the usage of smaller search phrases is on the decline. For example, in 2008, the number of search phrases containing only two words was 33.65 percent. Just two years later, the usage of 2-word search phrases has declined to only 21.41 percent.
Increasingly more commonly are search phrases which involve 4 keywords. In 2008, only 13.81 percent of internet users initiated searches of 4 words. In 2010, over 20 percent of searches were four words long.
For website developers or seo agencies, interested in optimizing a site to influence its ranking on popular search engines, this information can be valuable. For example, optimizing the content of your website or paid search campaigns for 2, 3 and 4 keywords in a search phrase allows you to target 70 percent of all search requests.
The following table demonstrates the ten most common lengths of keyword search phrases used in 2010 as compared to 2008:
