Website uptime report Global Luxury Brands – July 2012

Uptrends publishes the website uptime report for 181 Global Luxury Brands

Burlington, August 15, 2012 – Uptrends has published the results for the website uptime of 181 Global Luxury Brands.

During the month of July, Uptrends monitored the websites of 181 Global Luxury Brands from over 90 different locations and checked if the website was available for visitors and potential customers. Of the 181 websites that were monitored, 111 brands had a website uptime of 100 percent, which is an excellent performance rating. Their websites were always available for visitors and potential customers. Examples of some of the brands that have 100 percent uptime are: Bentley, Rolex, Baume et Mercier, Prada and Porsche.

Of all the monitored websites, 31 brands maintained a website uptime of 99.9 percent, which is good. Most organizations have service level agreements in place with their hosting providers which require 99.9 percent uptime. Some of the online retailers that consistently have a 99.9 percent uptime are: Moet & Chandron, Loewe, Bugatti and Dolce & Gabbana

Of the 181 monitored websites, 39 did not perform well. Their websites only maintained an average uptime between 77.4 to 99.8 percent. The website of the luxury watch manufacturer Ateliers deMonaco, was the least available during July. During this monitored period, this website was not available for 1,681 hours. This meant that during that time, potential visitors and customers did not have access to the website. Some other well-known brands that did not perform well were: Bang & Olufsen (21.9 hours not available), Rado (12.4 hours not available), Maserati (11.5 hours not available) and Breguet (8.2 hours not available).

“Where it comes to branding, a website which is always available is a must have for these brands.” said Jim Jaworski, Director of North American Operations for Uptrends. “If visitors can’t access your website they get frustrated and will go to one of your competitors, that’s how it works! We can only hope that this study is able to get the attention of these companies so that they can put the proper resources in place to monitor and prevent website downtime.”

Methodology: Uptrends tested the availability of the front page of each website, at 5 minute intervals, using over 90 global checkpoints. If a website was not able to be reached, a second checkpoint from a different location performed another availability check. If the website was still not available, it was defined as an error. During the research period, only the availability of the front page was examined. Scheduled maintenance periods were not factored into these test results. For the period when a website was available, it was registered as uptime. During the period when errors were generated, it was registered as downtime.
