In this lesson you’ll gain an understanding regarding what a monitor is. If you’ve taken our Quick Start course, this may sound a little familiar! (You can skip this lesson, we won’t judge you. Much.)

What is a monitor?

A monitor is a means of defining the URL, server, or web service being “checked” or monitored for performance and uptime by our network of global checkpoint servers.

For different types of website monitoring, you would select and configure what we call a monitor type in the “Add a Monitor” screen. These monitor types can be broken down into four functional categories:

  1. Availability Monitoring
  2. Advanced Availability Monitoring
  3. Website Performance Monitoring
  4. Web Application / Transaction Monitoring
