Customizing email alert message subject and formatting

The subjects of alerting emails can be customized. This is done on the integration level, meaning any subject you set will be the subject for all outgoing alert emails you may receive.

To customize the subject of alerting emails:

  1. Navigate to the Alerting by email integration. You can find it in the menu under Alerting > Integrations.
  2. Select the Customize integration checkbox.
  3. Navigate to the Customizations tab.
  4. Select the alert types you wish to customize the subject for, and enter a new subject.
  5. Click the Save button.

Customizing alerting email subject

Alerts are either sent for single monitors, or multiple monitors grouped together, depending on how many errors are generated within a short span. The email subjects for both these situations can be customized separately.

Note: you can refer to the monitor’s name by making use of the {{@monitor.name}} automatic variable, as in the default email subjects. However, other automatic variables are not supported.

HTML formatting

The outgoing email format of alerting emails can be set to HTML. The content of the HTML email is the same as the unformatted email, but with a banner image and styling added. Plain text links are replaced with text with a hyperlink.

To enable HTML formatting for alerting emails:

  1. Navigate to the Alerting by email integration. You can find it in the menu under Alerting > Integrations.
  2. Select the Customize integration checkbox.
  3. Navigate to the Customizations tab.
  4. Select the Use HTML mail checkbox to format outgoing alerting emails with HTML.
  5. Click the Save button.

Please note that toggling from plain text to HTML formatting in alert emails may cause issues with automated systems that read and process them. Therefore this option is not enabled by default for existing accounts, it is only enabled by default for new accounts.
