Lesson: Configuring Monitors

We’re changing our user interface. Some info may not yet be up to date. Please check From classic to new UI.

In this lesson you will briefly learn what a monitor is, what types of monitor types are available, and how to add a monitor to your Uptrends account for tracking.

What is a monitor?

A monitor represents the URL, server, or web service being monitored. It is what the Uptrends service “checks” and “monitors” for uptime and performance.

What types of monitors are available?

A variety of monitor types are available within the Uptrends application, depending on the package you have signed up for. Visit our article on monitor types for a detailed overview of available monitor types.

Note: Some of our monitors are what we call a basic check while others use a real browser for a detailed check of a webpage’s performance (Learn more).

How do I add a new monitor?

We’ve already set you up with your first monitor when you signed up for your account (based on the URL you provided), but if you’re ready to add another monitor, read on!

  1. Go to the Monitor dropdown located on the Main Menu, and click the + Add Monitor button.
  2. The Add Monitor configuration screen will open. This is where you can add a name to the monitor, as well as select the monitor type, check interval, etc. If you would like to further configure your new monitor, you can explore the remaining tabs in the configuration screen.
Note: To monitor your website transactions you will need to download the Transaction Recorder, and record/upload your transactions to your account.
  3. Once you have completed configuring your new monitor, click the Save button.

Congratulations, you now know what a monitor is, what types are available, and how to add a new monitor to your account! It’s a pretty great feeling, right?
